Local Realtor Plays the Role of the Good Samaritan
Local Realtor Plays the Role of the Good Samaritan Scott and Gina Lyle, while driving slowly down a residential street in south Palm Springs, were hailed with a cry for help from a victim of a power saw accident that completely severed his left thumb. Scott's car was past the driveway and he could have easily continued on saying it could be a nut, or "it's not my problem" or "why should I get involved" or in today's society "what about the liability, could I be sued for getting involved?" Without hesitating he agreed to drive the victim, Thom Wayne, at his request to the ER at Desert Hospital along with Thom's two young boys and one thumb on ice. Because of Scott's quick resolve and determination to do the right thing the skilled surgeons at Loma Linda Hospital after six hours of surgery were able to save and reattach Thom Wayne's thumb and repair the damage done to the other fingers of his left hand. Thom is a Christian developer, evangelist, and youth tennis instructor and is a very active "hands on" guy who happens to be left handed. Thom's praise and memory for Scott and Gina will not be forgotten as he says, he saw God using this tribulation as an experience that revealed His grace and mercy in the numerous steps of this event. For instance, as Thom reached down to pick up his severed thumb off the garage floor he states, Jesus Himself reassured him he would restore it and gave him a peace of mind to be calm, as well as a presence of mind to act quickly. Acting quickly to get the thumb on ice and to have the presence of mind to move outside when he and his boys could not give an address to 911 as to their location. While in route Scott, at Thom's request, called 911 again to let them know that they were on their way. Thom also had his son call his wife, Elizabeth, in Yucca Valley which later began a prayer chain for Thom's restoration and recovery via the telephone and emails. The surgeons later stated it was difficult to find any surviving arteries in the aftermath of the saw blade and it was truly a last minute effort after 3 hours that they found only one small remaining artery. Scott's decision to stop with God's intervention and immaculate design of the human anatomy truly has both Thom and Scott in awe as they witnessed in that not only did he not bleed very much (because the body shuts down automatically according to the doctors) and that the pain was not as bad as he expected. Thom has had a miraculous recovery and was released from the hospital early and has good movement and high expectations for the complete recovery of the use of his predominant left hand. By the way, in the original story or parable that Christ told in the Bible in Luke 10:30-37 Scott or the Good Samaritan wasn't the first guy to pass by the injured and bleeding victim by the roadside. There were two other types of people who happened by prior to the Good Samaritan and chose not to get involved and stop and go out of their way to help. Thom thanks both Scott and Jesus his Lord that he brought Scott the Good Samaritan by first and that he was graciously used to restore him in a desperate time of need. Note to editor: This event occurred on Saturday Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m.. Thom was in surgery from 9-3 a.m. that evening. He was originally scheduled to be released later but was released Wednesday on the 19th and is resting and writing in his home in Yucca Valley. Thom
